My first time at the BAFTAs
It’s been really inspiring to be on the Film Committee at BAFTA for the past 6 months and be closely involved in the process of judging the winners for 2024 BAFTAS.
I really had the golden ticket to the BAFTAs weekend! Saturday was spent at the nominees party; a sparkling event at the National Gallery drinking fabulous cocktails. Sunday's Award ceremony was truly incredible to be part of. Arriving on the red carpet, to rows of long lenses, the dinner, the after-party and of course the awards itself.
This year was truly a stand out year for the BAFTA Awards, and the nominees were out in force - Paul Giammati, Hugh Grant, Michael J Fox!. The speeches and performances were entertaining, touching and funny by equal measure.
But the thing that stood out for me was the amazing feeling of seeing such diversity at the awards and the events around it. I ate dinner with the amazing actor Indira Varma, was honoured to meet the Holdovers star (and eventual BAFTA winner) Da'Vine Joy Randolph and even chatted with Keegan Michael Key - who has starred in Wonka, The Prom and Schmigadoon and is a hero to my kids!
It’s inspiring to see people of colour being acknowledged for their achievements in entertainment and arts, and a great start to what I want to achieve in my role at BAFTA in the coming years. Lets go!
